How to Fold your Laundry to Reduce Creases

Let’s face it – nobody enjoys the tiresome task of ironing! With this in mind, it pays to do everything in your power to avoid creases at all costs. Did you know that the way in which you fold your clothing makes a huge difference when it comes to the amount of ironing that it needs? Here are three fool-proof ways in which to fold your clothes for better, crease-free results.

Method One

This folding method is ideal for all types of shirts.

  1. Lay the shirt down on a clean, even surface.
  2. Fold the shirt vertically so that the arms meet.
  3. Fold horizontally.
  4. Smooth out and flatten the shirt.

Method Two

This is a slightly more complicated method, but is ideal for limiting creases and keeping shirts visible when stacked in a pile.

  1. Hold each of the shoulders of the shirt so that the front of the shirt faces outwards. Then, using your thumbs, fold the sleeves behind, before folding vertically.
  2. Fold horizontally.
  3. Smooth out and flatten the shirt.

Method Three

This method is the go-to method for folding pants and jeans.

  1. Hold the pants or jeans at the waistband before folding vertically, so that the legs are touching.
  2. Fold horizontally once or twice.
  3. Smooth and flatten the pants.

Aside from folding, there are a few other things that you can do in order to reduce creases. Here are some tips:

  • Add vinegar to your washing machine during the rinse cycle – one cup should do the trick.
  • Don’t overload your machine. By squashing too many items in there, not only do you risk increased creasing, but your clothes are also unlikely to clean as well as they should.
  • Use a quality fabric softener. It will help to prevent both wrinkles and static cling.
  • If using a tumble dryer to dry your clothes, use the lowest setting possible.
  • Never allow your clothes to sit inside the washing machine or the dryer. Remove them as soon as the cycle ends.
  • For items that tend to crease easily, be sure to hang them up immediately after drying.

Don’t forget to ensure the ultimate in fabric care with OMO laundry detergent with reliable stain removal power. Not only will you enjoy fewer creases and less time spent bent over the dreaded ironing board, you will also be able to enjoy your favourite items for longer.
